THE WESTCOTT FAMILY SERIES

 In Blog

With six of the Westcott books now out, I have been asked numerous times if the series is complete. Several people have asked why there is no story for Harry. All the questions have led me to realize that nowhere on my web site is there any explanation of how many books there will be altogether in the series and whose stories, if any, are left. Well, I aim to set that straight right now. There is one story–a novella rather than a full-length novel–coming out in November of 2019. You can read about it, sample an excerpt, and preorder a copy (or ten) on Home Page.  There are two more full-length books to come after that….and maybe two additional ones. Possibly three…

The original plan was to write an eight-part series. Six of those are published: SOMEONE TO…LOVE, HOLD, WED, CARE, TRUST, and HONO(U)R. According to the plan, the remaining two books are SOMEONE TO ROMANCE, Jessica’s story, already written and due out in November of 2020. Soon I’ll be starting to write SOMEONE TO CHERISH, Harry’s story, which will probably be out in 2021. However, last year I was going on a writing retreat with some writer friends but had nothing to write since I was not planning to start Jessica’s story until spring of this year. What a ghastly fate! I decided that I would start a novella for Matilda Westcott, whose story definitely needed to be told though she was not part of the original plan. I would get it published privately as an ebook, I thought. However, since it was a Westcott story, I decided I had better let my agent know. She thought we had better let my editor know! My editor wanted the novella, which she planned to publish as an ebook. After she had read it, however, she liked it so much that she decided to give it the full treatment and publish it in hardcover and paperback format as well as ebook. It is due out in November, 2019, as SOMEONE TO REMEMBER. Do be aware, however, that it is a novella, considerably shorter than the other books in the series. It has a lower price to reflect that fact, and an excerpt from each of the other six books at the back!

The series should be over after Harry’s story. However, inevitably some minor characters have grabbed my attention and are stepping up to have their stories told too. In particular, there are the twins, Estelle and Bertrand Lamarr, children of Marcel Lamarr, Marquess of Dorchester, Viola’s husband. And there is Winifred Cunningham, adopted daughter of Camille and Joel. I have no definite plans yet to write any of these three stories, but they are knocking on the door of my imagination. So stay tuned.

I do hope you will enjoy the upcoming novella for 56-year-old Matilda. I have an extra advance copy of SOMEONE TO REMEMBER that I will give away on Tuesday, September 24, to someone who leaves a comment below.

[Sept. 24th: The winner is JULIE SCHROEDET. Congratulations to her. I will send her signed book as soon as I have her postal address.]

I love the series! It has triggered a Mary Balogh binge! I have been rereading some of the Westcott series as well as others. I just finished rereading (for the 2nd time) Seducing an Angel. The first time I read it, I had a hard time liking Cassandra. After all Stephen was still a boy to me. It’s funny how you can get so invested in characters in a book. It’s amazing to me how you can immediately transport me to Regency England as soon as I start reading. I’m looking forward to the rest of the series.

I’m so excited to see Matilda’s story coming soon! I always enjoy your books and the main characters do grab me, but I always imagine the life of that one overlooked lady, the spinster in the corner. They are always the ones who have chosen spinsterhood as a duty to a parent or other family member or had spinsterhood thrust upon them through no fault of their own. I thought I would always be one of the second category, but am happy to say that I found my very own Prince Charming who loves me unreservedly. True love stories do come true!

OK, if you would not get bored, I think any books you want to write about all the people connected to the Westcott family is fine with me. The characters you have introduced me to are so very interesting. It almost appears as if everyone who is part of the immediate family or just a distant cousin or such are kind and thoughtful people. They are the kind of people I would like to spend time with and get to know.

Maybe you have created a monster, but as much as I have loved your other series, for some reason this cast of characters seem to have really gone to my heart. They have overcome difficulties, found strength they never knew they had and discovered who they truly are.

In short, write as many books in this series as you want. If I asked for as many books as I wanted, you would be there typing away for years and years.

Also I am looking forward to Jessica and Harry’s stories and hopefully those of Bertrand, Estelle and Winnifred. I have really invested in this series because the characters are so human with all the frailties that that entails. This has been the same with many of your other series which is no doubt why you have such a faithful following of readers.

I am excited for Matilda’s book. I love her character and I would like a happy ending for her, with or without a gentleman by her side. I just wanna happiness for her!!!

I’m glad you will write/publish Harry’s and Jessica’s story – they are obviouusly among those severely affected by the original Westcott scandal. I look forward to the Lamarr youths’ stories as well, and Winifred’s too. I have been looking forward to Mathilda’s story ever since we got a peek at it in the previous book. Thanks for the chance!

I have to admit I’m rather waiting for the whole series to be complete before I start reading – after I had to wait patiently for all the Bedwyns I decided to wait and read whole series in (almost) one go.

On the other hand I love to hear about your creative process 🙂

I have enjoyed the series very much and look forward to continuing my acquaintance with the family. As I am in my 60’s it is nice to hear you are never to old for love!

Do you think you can give us some type of hint as to what Jessica and Harry’s stories will be about???? Please?
