Jasper Finley, Baron Montford, is twenty-five years old and bored. He is London's most notorious daredevil and much admired by his male peers. He has never lost a wager, though he has taken on some hair-raising ones. But there seems to be no new challenge left to him and life looks empty and dreary as it stretches before him. He is also very drunk following his birthday celebrations-as are all his male friends. And so from the depths of the forbidden a new challenge is both suggested and accepted. Jasper is to seduce a virtuous female within two weeks, something beyond the pale of decency even for him. And the virtuous female is to be Katherine Huxtable, the beautiful, virtuous, and naïve sister of the new young Earl of Merton.
It seems like a wager too easy for his considerable skills. When Jasper sets out to win it, though, he finds the challenge far more difficult than he had expected-though not for any predictable reason. Chagrined and humiliated at his failure, he withdraws to the country and does not encounter Katherine again for three years.
At the start of this book they meet again to mutual embarrassment and hostility, though soon there is a new wager between them more challenging than anything Jasper has ever experienced or Katherine contemplated. Even that pales into insignificance, however, before a growing scandal that erupts into open disaster and threatens to ruin both their lives.

Wickedly sensual, Then Comes Seduction, the second book in the HUXTABLES series is a magnificent historical romance. Readers will get caught up in the lighthearted romance between Kate and Jasper, which covers deeper and, at times, darker feelings, as Jasper struggles to overcome his past. The secondary characters add appeal to the story. Brimming with humor, sensual love scenes, a delightful plot, life-like characters and romance, this story is a winner.
Then Comes Seduction is Mary Balogh at the top of her game, bringing fantastic characters to life with passion and emotion. For Catherine, family is everything and love is automatic. For Jasper, family is a bad experience, with the exception of his half-sister, Charlotte, and love is just a word. Life to him is a game where most things are a wager. Catherine is betting on love, an emotion Jasper has never felt, and the stakes are high, with winner taking all. Then Comes Seduction is emotional, humorous, sensuous, and just plain wonderful. This is a fantastic series!

Exquisite sexual chemistry permeates this charmingly complex story that seamlessly interweaves family issues with the far-reaching effects of scandal and happily ensures another Huxtable's wedded bliss in Then Comes Seduction.
It's impossible to summarize in a few words the intricate relationship between these two protagonists, but here's an attempt. The scenes when they are together are sometimes feisty, sometimes sensuous, and sometimes humorous, but always feature riveting dialogue. Also know that learning what formed Jasper into the man we first meet and watching him evolve into the man he should have been is a pure treat. And be glad that Katherine, who had plenty of offers of marriage, some even from men she liked very well, has a strong enough character to keep her dreams alive.
