I fell in love with your characters when I got the first two books of your "Web" series while stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. I already had labeled several of your other books, "The First Snowdrop" as keepers, but the Web series reeled me in for good. Missed your Christmas short story this year, but was delighted with your epilogue of "The Christmas Bride" Thank you for that treat. I suspect that it is because your characters are women and men, not teenagers, as so many romace heroines seem to be, that I can relate and believe in your stories. I look forward to your next story.

You were very kind in encouraging me some years ago when I had my first novel published, 'Dancing On An Edge". At that time you offered to write something on my behalf if I had a second book published.Well it looks like Regency Press may be going to publish my second novel. It is a regency entitled The Pseudo Chaperone. I wondered whether I could call upon you for an endorsement. If I am out of line please ignore this Email. Thanks for many hours of pleasure in reading your books. Bill de Nance

Dear Mary: Thanks for your response to my E-mail! I am looking forward to the next book in 2000. It sounds wonderful. I just finished the Temporary Wife and think it is the best you have done. In the process of reading One Night for Love. Just to let you know, I printed out your book list and hope to find each and every one. The series of the "Web" books are excellent. Devil's Web is the only one not found yet. I hope to find it. Please reprint some of your older books. Between my mother and I, we have about 1/3 of your books. Thanks

Dear Ms. Balogh, You are a truly remarkable writer and one of my favorites (I also love Austen, de Saint Exupery, Paul Watkins, etc. but I digress). I am not one for most romantic fiction but I picked up “Beyond the Sunrise” a few years back, and was amazed and mesmerized. Joanna and Robert's story is so poignant and beautiful. It makes me cry every time I read it (and I have read it at least half a dozen times already). It is a classic novel. However, I wanted to ask a serious question. I know that the book is out-of-print (which I wish would be remedied because EVERYONE who loves your work should read it) and that you still hold the copyright, but is it possible to get the rights to adapt the book for the screen? I am a screenwriter and think the story would make a wonderful sweeping romance. I know of an agent who's interested in my work and I would love to adapt your book. Please let me know and keep up the wonderful work. You are a true diamond of the first water!

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Somehow, in the last six months, I have become addicted to your books. Since most of them are out of print, I have resorted to using our interstate library system in order to track down your books. I want to thank you for reading pleasure you have given me! I am amazed at how very prolific you are and how diverse your story lines are. So far, though I really do love all of your books, my two favorites are "The Secret Pearl" and "Secrets of the Heart."

Dear Mrs. Balogh, I'd just like to pass along my compliments. You are my favorite modern Regency author. Your characters are just that, not charicatures. I also got my first exposure to regencies by reading Georgette Heyer. My all-time favorite is Cotillion. My name is Welsh, my parents are also from the UK and I am also a practising Catholic . Something in your work made me suspect you were too and now I know. Anyway, I am rambling, but I just want to thank you for your hard work. I have spent many a wonderful hour curled up with your books. Best Regards, Megan

I saw that you had a website in your last book. I have read every single one of your books and, more importantly, kept them! Usually, I recycle my books in the interest of space by passing them on to my mother and sister, both regency addicts like myself. They both know, however, that I don't pass on my Mary Balogh's! As someone who cut her teeth on Georgette Heyer's while in her early teens many, many years ago, I appreciate the beauty of your plots and characterizations. My only regrets are that I read your books too quickly and have to wait until the next arrives and that I don't write as well as you do! Keep up the very good work!

VERY MUCH ENJOY YOUR ABILITY TO DESCRIBE THE FEELINGS OF BOTH THE MALE AND FEMALE CHARACTERS IN YOUR STORIES AND YOU ALSO GENERALLY MANAGE TO INCLUDE OTHER SIDELINE ROMANCES SO MAKING THE STORYLINE MORE INTERESTING. I STARTED OFF BY GETTING 'A CERTAIN MAGIC' FROM THE LIBRARY AND FROM THEN ON HAVE BOUGHT EVERY TITLE I CAN WHETHER NEW OR SECOND HAND. 'A CERTAIN MAGIC' IS DEFINITELY MY FAVOURITE OUT OF SO MANY OF YOUR BOOKS. FOUND YOUR WEBSITE ON THE INSIDE COVER OF 'LAST CHANCE FOR LOVE' TITLE WHICH I HAVE BOUGHT AND READ. HAVE YOU WRITTEN A BOOK CALLED 'THE RELUCTANT BRIDE'? I LOOK FORWARD TO COMING TO THIS WEBSITE AND SEEING WHAT NEW BOOKS ARE AVAILABLE.

I was lucky enough to find the first two in a used book store after I read them in a library and wanted to own them, but I haven't yet been able to find Devil's Web. I hope you'll consider re-releasing them at some point. But I think my favorite so far is Tangled. Thank you for sharing your stories.

Williams, Tom Stoppard, Jane Austen and...Mary Balogh. I can't tell you how lovely a quality you have brought into my life with your regencies. It's a world that I cherish. I was diagnosed with breast cancer this past year and instead of seeing things negatively, I see them with more clarity... and want to say thanks where thanks is due. I've been percolating the idea of writing a book forever, fostered by a steady diet of Georgette Heyer in my formative years. You give me hope! Keep up the great work!

MARY Hi! Just thought I would drop you a line & check out your website. Again I really enjoyed the Regency Masterclass. Not only was it tremendous fun but I learned a great deal. Also I was wondering if you happened to have a list of all the people in the class. I am trying to locate a friend that I met but I lost her address. Her name is Deborah & she is from London. If you could help me on this I would appreciate it. Thanks, Cynthia Cormany

Dear Ms. Balogh, Please re-issue your old books, I have all but 3 or 4 and have given up trying to get them used. I loved 'Truly', that scene where he asked if she wanted to get off of the horse made my head swim. However, the "duplicate" duel scene in 'Indiscreet' and 'Unforgiven' strikes me as your best writing ever. When I came upon the same scene for the second time I held the two books side by side and whooped with joy at such good writing. However, I shall never forgive you for marrying off Nathaniel and Eden in one fell swoop--I had so looked forward to reading a 4th book!

Dear Ms. Balogh, I am a tremendous fan of your work, and now have all of your books with the exception of "The Wood Nymph." I have been trying to find this book for a few years now, and it's become impossible to find. The book is selling for about $40 on Amazon Auctions. I am not a collector of your work to make money - I just want to read the book. Have you ever considered, since your books are so popular in the used book trade, of reissuing your titles? For those of us who are simply interested in reading, that would be a marvelous thing. As it is, I doubt that I will ever be able to get my hands on "The Wood Nymph." Again, let me say that I have enjoyed your books immensely, and look forward to your next project. Nina Scheller

Mary, I love your books. My favorite one is The Gilded Web. I have searched used book stores, the internet, etc.,all to no avail. The only place I can find it is on Amazon.com auctions, but since this book is so splendid, it seems to go for about an average of $30 per auction. I have bid on this book and have been outbid many times because I can only afford $25. Alas, I am a poor college student. I am writing you this letter to ask if you could talk to the publishers about re-issueing The Gilded Web. I am sure that many other of your readers feel the same way. Sincerely a devoted fan, Elizabeth

Thanks for a very interesting website. You have been my favorite author next to Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen for 10 or 11 years. I just joined the list at One List and have enjoyed your comments there. It seems incredible to hear from you after admiring your books for so long. I have many favorites, and have collected all of your books except one (Truly), but at the top of my list would be Beyond the Sunrise, Snow Angel and The Lady with the Black Umbrella. I do not like evil villains as they are usually very unrealistic, so I appreciated your comments about that, but wish you would have less villains! What is most interesting and enjoyable for me is the development of the personal relationship, overcoming obstacles, etc. rather than outside interference. I like your unusual heroes and heroines (A Precious Jewell, Lord Carew's Bride) and your books always are very touching. You usually add just enough sex too! (at least for my taste) One of my favorite things is to get two love stories for one in a book, and I wish you would do more of that, as well as older heroes and heroines. I like how your characters are often "ordinary" people, not all fabulously beautiful people, but I'm afraid I am partial to Heyer's dark, brooding, arrogant heroes who very reluctantly fall in love (my favorites are Faro's Daughter and Venetia) and the very smart, witty heroines (who do not act like feminists in the Regency period! but manage to be independent and get what they want, for example, the Grand Sophy). Well, you do a great job. I just got your newest book and have not read it yet. I think I am saving it for some special day, like a treat to be savored! I do think your earliest books were not your best. I just got a few of the older books recently through internet used bookstores. But I enjoyed them and am glad to have them. Thanks for listening! Best Wishes, Edwina Warner P.S. We must be about the same age. I just came home from St. Louis where I went to a ball game, and drove right by Swansea, IL, a suburb of Belleville, Il, just east of St. Louis. I visited Wales in 1972 and enjoyed it very much.

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Was reading a review of a Regency Christmas anthology containing one of your lovely stories (the anthology featuring gold, frankincense, and myrth...yours was the gold.) The reviewer was commenting on the difficulty of rating anthologies as one or two stories could be quite fine, but the others not up to the same level, hence the problems of assessing the entire collection. It made me think that your publishers might be interested (I am positive your readers would be!) in publishing an anthology with only your short stories. Your Christmas stories could constitute one anthology and your other short stories could be published under various theme titles. I have found myself wanting to discard an anthology, but deciding against it as it contains a story of yours that I enjoy reading and re-reading. Perhaps other readers encounter this same dilemma. It certainly would help this reader who has a house at least half full of books....the results of an English teacher/librarian and a history professor meeting, marrying, and mating their mutual book vice for 32 years! Please keep well and happy. Sincerely, Rosalee Cohen

Hi Mary, Just love your books - truly written in the Georgette Heyer tradition. It is a joy to see excellent writing in the romance genre - just like she did it, so do you. I am wondering why your new Dell book is available only at Amazon, which has high shipping costs, and not at my neighborhood B.Dalton, where I have had it on order for months with no results. Best of luck on your future books - it is so delightful to pick up one of your new books, or a backlist title that I have just found. Please find someone to republish your now unavailable backlist titles - there are many of us who would like to read them. Thanks again, Anita von Oppenfeld

Dear Mrs. Balogh, I have just finished reading with my usual pleasure your latest book "One night for Love." The best part of this read however, was on the dedication page to Ms. Knutson which carried your new web site address. I have enjoyed all of your books, but my favorite is "The Temporary Wife." I re-read it constantly. Upon each finish, I have the same emotion. I want to know more about Charity & Anthony Earheart, The Duke & Duchess of Withingsby. Your character development in this novel was particularly well crafted. I have always wanted to know what happened to them after they returned from charity's home to Enfield Park. How does Charity handle being a duchess? How does she continue to handle her husband the duke? Surely this leopard hasn't changed all of his top lofty spots. What happens to Augusta as she grows into womanhood? Does Maryann ever unbend to Charity? How do the Duncans take to their sister being a duchess? How does anthony fit into this loving boisterous family? Is it possible that you have considered writing a sequel? Perhaps some of my comments have intrigued you into now thinking about. If any book ever cried out for a sequel, "The Temporary Wife" does. In any case please accept my thanks for providing me with many pleasureable hours. Sincerely yours John F. I find the loving and caring you weave into your characters and stories very healing. I look forward to every one of your books. I hope you're not thinking of retiring like Lavyrle Spencer did! One thing, I read in "Romantic Times" that you won't be writing the smaller books for Signet anymore. I wish you would continue writing them. I loved your shorter stories. Actually, I looked forward to them more than I looked forward to your longer books. The reason is not because of their length, but because the stories are different. But whatever you write, I look forward to it! Sincerely, Louise

Dear Mrs. Balogh, Your novels have brought me such enjoyment that I must thank you for writing them. I have particularly liked minor characters in one novel becoming protagonists in another. Have you ever thought of writing a novel about Rosalie Ogden and Sir Albert Boyle who appear in Dark Angel. I was intrigued by a handsome and wealthy gentleman falling in love , almost against his will, with a (at first sight) plain and dull young woman. Their story, during the courtship and after their marriage, strikes me as one that could be developed into a moving love story. I suppose none of us ever quite recover from the Cinderella story, even in this day of "equality"! Keep well and happy. Sincerely, Rosalee Cohen

As I didn't have the book on my desk, I did get the title mixed up. I find I read your books over and over. I read “Indiscreet” three times in a row, without a break. I enjoyed it that much. I read the first in the “Web” series, but then turned it in to the used book store. By the time I realized there were three in the series, I was unable to find a copy of the “Gilded Web” for a rereading. I still have “Devil’s Web” on my shelf, but have been looking for the first two for some time. Thank you for the information. However, I note these books are not available, but at least I have the names of what I’m looking for. This is a great web site.

Mary, As an avid collector of your books, I was so pleased to discover your web addy in One Night of Love. As always, I enjoyed it to the point of staying up all night to finish it! Your books are the ones I go back and read again and again, and I am always awaiting the next one. Thank you!

I just had a suggestion to see if you can sell your books (one of each) in a sort of package for people to buy. Not only would that be great, but it would make it so much easier

I can't believe that there is so much info on regency romances! I started reading Heyer in Mexico 32 years ago and have been hooked ever since. I am so excited about learning more about new books to read. Thank you!

I just finished reading One Night for Love and had to check out your website. As someone who travels every week, I go through at least one book a week, most of them historical romances. I'll tell you that I was getting to the point where all the stories were starting to blur together when I found your book. I actually found myself hoping my flight would be delayed so I could finish it! This is the first book of yours that I have read and judging from the extensive list you have, you'll be keeping me entertained for quite a while!

I love all your books!!! YOu are a truly great author. Few authors manage to create a truly natural flow throughout the novels like you do. I don't see the calculated handbooks on how to write in the backgrounds. YOu have a style that is so unique and captivating. I first started by reading you Signet books and I am hooked on you. I hope that in the future I will be as a popular a Regency writer as you are.
